One of the most amazing multi-day and day trips in the nation, the Upper Animas River, is continuous class 4 and class 5 whitewater.  Starting in the remote San Juan Mountains the Upper Animas begins in the small historic mining town of Silverton, Colorado.  The Upper Animas starts above 9,000 feet in elevation and plunges through gorges and vast mountains towering at 14,000 feet. With Flexible Flyers Rafting you have four options to run the Upper Animas.  Option one, which is the most famous, is a two day trip where after a solid day of class 4 and 5 whitewater we land at our base camp where you have an evening of fun, games, sightseeing, hiking, entertaining guides, and cooks.  Our camp in Needleton is one of the most amazing places on this earth to camp below 14,000 foot peaks. It is prime for star gazing. After you wake up from a wonderful night’s rest, we make you a hearty, delicious breakfast to get you ready for 13 miles of continuous class 4 and 5 rapids.  We finish our rafting experience with a ride on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.  Option two is a marathon trip where we run all 26 miles in one day; a long day of big exciting whitewater.  Option three goes from Silverton to Needleton and option four from Needleton to Tacoma.
